Have you already applied to test Adobe ColdFusion 2023?

Adobe has invited CFers to provide initial feedback onĀ  Fortuna Alpha. So much for ColdFusion dead, huh… What about Beta? Yes, Beta is open for testing and you should jump in and test the s*/t out it, pardon my {french} …

Learn about the 7 Steps To Get The Best Coldfusion Web Application Performance

Why Codename Fortuna

Each version has a different codename. 2021 was Stratus. 2018 was Aether. And so on.

So…

CF 2023 features

Project Fortuna is power packed and comes with several features, like:

  • GCP Services (Storage, Firestore, PubSub)

  • GraphQL (*NEW* perhaps the most anticipated feature)

  • Central Config Server

  • JSON Web Tokens (JWT) (*NEW* security, enough said!)

  • SAML and LDAP support

  • PDF 2.0 (A whole lot better PDFs)

  • Performance Monitoring Toolset (Monitor the GCP services and flag potential bottlenecks)

  • Docker and PMT enhancements

All these features are works in progress, and Adobe is expecting feedback from us to make them awesome.

ACF 23 Beta Builds

You can now download this:

  • ColdFusion Zip Installers (Win/Linux/Mac/WAR)

  • ColdFusion GUI Installers (Win/Mac/Linux)

  • .NET Integration Services Installers

  • AddOns Installers (Win/Mac/Linux)

  • VS Code Builder Extension VSIX compatible with Fortuna

You won't find CFFiddle in this list, yet. Adobe says it will be available soon. Make sure you keep an eye out for this.

What to do and how to sign up?

Here is where you can getĀ ACF 2023 beta.

PSĀ Mark TakataĀ is giving some talks on what is new in ACF 2023 ā€œFortunaā€ online and at Adobe CF Summit East in Wash DC 4/6/23.

The Forum

They have Linux and Windows versions of CF, .NET integration installer, Docker Image (ubuntu), VS Code Extension (adds support for CF Fortuna), and Documentation. There is also a ā€œbugs fixed & known issuesā€ file.

So, let's hope that it will be everything that Adobe claims to be (in which I have no doubts…) and let's test it to make one more CF version awesome and even more alive.

Make sure to report any bugs you fin and leave your feedback. The place to log the bugs is Pre-release Beta portal.

The road to Fortuna events- will you attend?

Adobe ColdFusion is doing a series of webinars in order to prepare us for the upcoming 2023 version. Here is the list of events.

Road to Fortuna Series: ColdFusion 2023 in Docker on Google Cloud Platform

During GCP centric webinar, Mark Takata will explore how to run a containerized ColdFusion 2023 server on Google Cloud Platform’s Kubernetes powered containerization system. He will demonstrate how the powerful new Google Cloud Platform features added to ColdFusion 2023 can help optimize application development, provisioning and delivery. This will be the first time ColdFusion 2023 will be shown running in containers publicly, and the session is designed to showcase the ease of working in this popular method of software delivery.

Road to Fortuna Series: New Administrator Features in Adobe ColdFusion 2023

During this session, Mark Takata will explore the powerful new features being added to the Adobe ColdFusion 2023 Administrator, including Single Sign-On (SSO) support for SAML/LDAP login and the new Central Configuration Server (CCS). Attendees will learn how to leverage these new features to streamline their application development and management processes, as well as learn about the new packages being added to ColdFusion 2023. We will also explore some of the new Admin API and Command Line Interface features being added in ColdFusion 2023.

Road to Fortuna Series: Exploring the New Google Cloud Platform Features

During the Road to Fortuna Series: Exploring the New Google Cloud Platform Features webinar, Mark Takata will explore the new native hooks that Adobe ColdFusion is adding to work with the Google Cloud Platform. He will focus on features related to the GCP FireStore document database, Storage capabilities, and PubSub messaging features, providing attendees with valuable insights into how these features can be leveraged to optimize application development and delivery on the Google Cloud Platform. The session will be highly technical and will provide attendees with practical examples and use cases.
Speaker is Mark Takata. He is a ColdFusion Technical Evangelist, at Adobe.

CF Rocks!

And to continue learning how to make your ColdFusion apps more modern and alive, I encourage you to download our free ColdFusion Alive Best Practices Checklist.

Because… perhaps you are responsible for a mission-critical or revenue-generating CF application that you don’t trust 100%, where implementing new features is a painful ad-hoc process with slow turnaround even for simple requests.

What if you have no contingency plan for a sudden developer departure or a server outage? Perhaps every time a new freelancer works on your site, something breaks. Or your application availability, security, and reliability are poor.

And if you are depending on ColdFusion for your job, then you can’t afford to let your CF development methods die on the vine.

You’re making a high-stakes bet that everything is going to be OK using the same old app creation ways in that one language — forever.

All it would take is for your fellow CF developer to quit or for your CIO to decide to leave the (falsely) perceived sinking ship of CFML and you could lose everything—your project, your hard-won CF skills, and possibly even your job.

Luckily, there are a number of simple, logical steps you can take now to protect yourself from these obvious risks.
