Getting going with Coldfusion Builder

10:00-10:50, January 26, 2026 (PST)

Perhaps you've heard that Adobe offers a free extension for VS Code called Coldfusion Builder–or maybe this is news, though it's nearly 3 years old. Perhaps you wonder how it compares to other cfml extensions for vscode (Kamasamak's, Ilya's, or that from the Boxlang team), or how it compares to the “simplicity” of Dreamweaver, HomeSite+, or editors like Notepad++, Sublime, etc. In this session, veteran CFer Charlie Arehart will address those audiences and highlight things that CFBuilder can do that most or none of them can, including the CF Security Code Analyzer, PMT code profiler, CF step debugger, and more.

Write a high-energy, engaging conference session proposal that explains why prompt engineering matters for software engineers. Hook the audience with real-world examples of good vs. bad prompts. Explain why vague instructions lead to junk results, while structured, iterative prompts unlock AI’s full potential. Cover best practices, common mistakes, and AI-friendly phrasing that makes tools like ChatGPT a real asset in coding, debugging, and brainstorming. Provide actionable takeaways engineers can use to fine-tune their prompts for better code explanations, documentation, and problem-solving. Keep it fun, interactive, and packed with insights that make attendees walk away thinking, “Why wasn’t I doing this sooner?”

AI Won’t Steal Your Job (But It Will Rewrite Your Regex)

11:00-11:50, January 27, 2026 (PST)

You've survived JavaScript fatigue, framework drama, and ColdFusion syntax wars, now AI elbows it's way in to the hype-swamp. In this session, we chainsaw our way through the cyberfluff and look at how AI actually helps you in your daily work. I've structured this session as a day in the life of a developer using tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Copilot. Follow a developer workday from “what the heck did my boss just email me”, to debugging, writing SQL, migrating schemas, refactoring legacy code, and yes even help with the arcane, regular expressions (gasp)!
You'll see the strengths, the hallucinations, and where a human brain is still required. You’ll leave with a better idea of how to use AI as the tool that it is, leaving dinosaur developers in the dust.
Join me and let's have some fun, even at AI's expense. Bring coffee.

ColdFusion Security in Action: Defend, Secure, and Update

08:00-08:50, January 28, 2026 (PST)

In today’s security-first development landscape, creating a secure ColdFusion application is not just a best practice—it’s a necessity. ColdFusion provides a powerful set of built-in security features that developers must actively use to protect applications against evolving threats. Understanding and mitigating vulnerabilities like those listed in the OWASP Top 5—including injection flaws, broken authentication, and sensitive data exposure—is crucial, and ColdFusion offers native capabilities to help address these risks. This session will emphasize secure coding practices and highlight the developer’s responsibility in safeguarding applications from design to deployment. We’ll also cover recent security updates from the ColdFusion engineering team, the significance of breaking changes introduced for security hardening, and how failing to apply these updates can leave applications dangerously exposed. How modern ai tools can be leveraged for secure coding and production ready applications. Finally, we’ll explore Adobe’s ongoing commitment to a security-first approach and demonstrate, with a live example, how unpatched applications can be easily compromised—underscoring the importance of staying informed and proactive in ColdFusion security

Key takeaway:
1. Leverage ColdFusion’s Built-in Security Options Utilize platform-level features such as Lockdown Guides, Sandbox Security, and secure configurations to harden your CF environment.
2. Stay Current with Security Updates Understand the importance of applying the latest security patches. Learn why breaking changes are sometimes necessary—through real-world demos and use cases.
3. Explore New Security Features Gain insights into enhancements like serialfilter, pathfilter, updated JVM flags, and other emerging tools that strengthen runtime protection.
4. Harness AI to Write More Secure Code Discover how modern AI tools can assist in identifying vulnerabilities, suggesting secure coding patterns, and improving code reviews.
5. Understand Adobe’s Commitment to Security Learn about Adobe’s ongoing investments in security, including response timelines, secure software practices, and community-driven improvements.

Modern ColdFusion: Unlocking Scalable, Asynchronous, Multithreaded and Cloud-Ready Distributed Architecture

09:00-09:50, January 28, 2026 (PST)

My journey to ColdFusion came after working with various tech stacks over the years. What started as a shift driven by project needs, ended up being a pleasant surprise. ColdFusion delivered not just speed and simplicity, but also robust support for object-oriented programming and seamless integration with both legacy systems and modern architectures. What truly stood out was its ability to manage asynchronous job queues with post-execution hooks and multithreading – features typically associated with more complex architectures. Additionally, integrating AWS SNS and SQS into ColdFusion workflows enabled us to build scalable and reliable distributed systems. In this session, I’ll share how we’ve harnessed these capabilities in real-world scenarios and why ColdFusion remains a surprisingly powerful tool in today’s modern development ecosystem.

Stop developing on production! CI/CD pipelines for small business that are fast, effective, and inexpensive

10:00-10:50, January 28, 2026 (PST)

If you're developing against production, or have a very limited budget for infrastructure, this session will teach you the ins and outs of creating a continuous integration and continuous deployment pipeline. You'll learn about creating a local development environment for your application using ACF Docker containers. You'll use a cloud repository, and code deployment pipeline to deploy your code to a production server automatically when you push to production. We will discuss AWS in specifics, but the concepts are also available on GCP and Azure. Most importantly, this session will focus on cost-effective ways to manage this all!

Agentic Data Workflows in ColdFusion: Autonomous, Multi-Step Processing for High-Volume Documents

08:00-08:50, January 29, 2026 (PST)

In this session, we’ll showcase a real-world, end-to-end solution for automating complex invoice processing using Adobe ColdFusion combined with Model Context Protocol (MCP)-powered autonomous agents. Attendees will learn how to design and execute multi-step workflows that blend AI reasoning and robust ColdFusion capabilities to process high volumes of unstructured and semi-structured data asynchronously. The workflow begins with ColdFusion ingesting and pre-processing invoices—including OCR extraction, CSV parsing, and metadata capture. Next, MCP agents perform intelligent validation, auto-correction, and enrichment, dynamically deciding whether documents can proceed automatically or require human review through ColdFusion-based interfaces. Once validated, enriched invoice data is routed to storage systems and triggers real-time notifications and reporting dashboards.
This demonstration highlights how ColdFusion and MCP can collaborate to:
Automate data extraction and validation at scale
Reduce manual intervention in repetitive tasks
Enable intelligent decision-making within workflows Integrate seamlessly with schedulers, storage systems, and notification channels
Whether you handle finance documents, customer records, or compliance forms, this session will inspire you to reimagine what’s possible with modern ColdFusion and AI-powered agents.

Getting Started with MVC in ColdFusion using FW/1

10:00-10:50, January 29, 2026 (PST)

The Model-View-Controller (MVC) approach to application design is the foundation of modern application and API development. ColdFusion MVC frameworks have been available for more than a decade. One of the most popular MVC frameworks is FW/1 (and it’s companion dependency injection framework DI/1).

In this session, we’ll answer the following questions using examples of procedural code and FW/1 MVC code: What advantages does the MVC approach have over procedural applications? How can MVC make writing and maintaining application code easier and more testable? How can you start using MVC now, even if existing applications are written in procedural style (aka “how do I migrate”)?
